Eastlake Cavalier Club Specialty Show – Sunday, August 2022
Judge: Michael Levy – Pascavale UK

I would firstly like to thank the Club for the appointment to judge at such a friendly well-run show. It was quite a wait with ensuing pandemic but once here I really enjoyed the dogs and the sportsmanship of exhibitors. I extend my thanks for the generous hospitality shown to myself and my partner. This was my first visit to Canada but can see the breed is in safe hands with you guys after seeing the depth of quality shown.

Junior Puppy Dog
1. (49) Ebee Brinklow When Dreams Go Walkabout - C Pattison & E Squirrell
7-month-old Blen with nice broad head. Large dark expressive eyes. Good reach on the move. A little longer than I prefer and needs to settle down into his frame. Showing typical happy temperament.

Neat body with short coupling. Pleasing head but would prefer larger eyes. Quality coat.
12-15 Month Dog
1. (21) Birchrun Dressed to Impress – J Robinson

A dog that shouts quality and oozes breed type. This Blen boy is a joy to go over and watch when moving. Super head with gentlest of expressions from dark round eyes, lovely cushioning. Well laid-back shoulders, firm back and muscled rear. So elegant and easy on the move with good front reach, raised level topline and proud head carriage, making for an attractive profile. Finished with beautifully presented silky coat. Winners Dog & Best Opposite Sex in Show

2. (13) Londoncor Kensington - E Whitney & C Cortes
Lovely example with great outgoing temperament. Appealing expression, soft and kind. Such a glamour boy with a wealth of coat. A little longer than I prefer but still a real head turner on the move. Reserve Winners Dog

11-year-old Tri boy with classic head with symmetrical face markings. Lovely rich tan especially for his age. A wealth of long flowing coat. Moved steadily with correct posture. Sweetest of temperaments.
Junior Puppy Bitch
1. (18) Cempa and Cedar Creek’s Silver Lining – M Creary & T Owens
I have judged many examples of our breed in nearly 30 years judging in the Cavalier world. In that time there has only been a few occasions when I have been totally smitten by an exhibit and this precocious 6-month-old has joined that very short list. Her make and shape fit so well into the standard. A super arched neck flowing into well set shoulders, a short-coupled body, good round spring of rib, correctly angled stifles and short rear pasterns.
Her head is lovely and typical with huge, round, dark eyes giving a soft haunting expression which stays in your mind even when she has gone. A cushioned tapered muzzle with good stop and neat lips. Correct ear placement, high and turning into the face making for a delightful frame. When travelling she continues to strike out with super a rear action driving her effortlessly round the ring. Even at this tender age her finish was lovely with a wealth of soft silky coat. Her temperament is stand out which is such an important part of our breed. She tried to jump up at me every time I went near, very endearing. In the final challenge she charged round the ring as if she owned it and today, she did! Will watch her career with interest. Winners Bitch - Best Puppy - Best in Show

2. (34) Barrington’s Sandpiper in Velaris – S Miller
Black and Tan quite immature but shows promise, my experience of this colour is they can mature so much slower than the other colour,s so patience is often required. Well balanced body. Pleasing head with gentle expression. Moved well in profile keeping a good tailset.

3. (40) Embee’s Such a Curious Dream at Venrose – K & E Roberts and M Squirrell
Well broken markings on this Blen. Nice head with nice dark eyes. Good cushioning. Little soft in topline today which should hopefully improve with maturity. Well-proportioned body.

4. (64) Cabell’s Hiding in Plain Sight – A Mifflin
A raw Tri baby. Loved her outgoing personality, such fun. Very small neat body. Pretty head with soft expression. This ones ready and willing.
